Galactic foregrounds and scattering transform

Short Talk

Abstract : The precise determination of galactic foregrounds is an important step to study the polarization of the CMB, and even more for the measurement of potential primordial B-modes. As these foregrounds of magnetized and turbulent interstellar medium are highly non-Gaussian and anisotropic, this requires to introduce a satisfactory statistical description, which has to go beyond the standard power spectrum estimation. While discussing these points, I will introduce in an heuristic way the scattering transform, a statistical representation developed by data scientists to study such non-Gaussian statistics, and show how it can be applied to the study of the galactic foregrounds of CMB.
