My main scientific interest is quantum gravity. I have worked extensively on the formulation and the development of Loop Quantum Gravity. I am currently trying to study possible observable consequences of the theory.

A second central theme of my research is the statistical behaviour of gravity and the nature of time. I have developed the notion of thermal time with Alain Connes.

A third focus of my interest is quantum mechanics. I have developed the relational interpretation of quantum theory, which sounds to me as the least implausible of the ways of understanding the theory.
