SEMINAIRE MERCREDI 18 OCTOBRE 2006 14 heures Salle Séminaire 5 Centre de Physique Théorique Marseille-Luminy Gian Michele Graf ETH Zuerich Title: Aspects of the integer quantum Hall effect Abstract: We review some of the different approaches to the integer quantum Hall effect. The Hall current may be viewed either as being driven by a magnetic flux threading the sample, or by an electric field; it may flow either in the bulk or at the edge of a sample. We present three corresponding definitions of conductance and discuss results establishing their equivalence. The role played by localization will also be addressed.
