I review the properties of Lagrangian transport in rotating geophysical flows characterized by the presence of coherent eddies. In particular, I shall discuss the trapping properties of coherent vortices and the effects of ensembles of eddies on the Lagrangian statistical properties. The parameterization of absolute dispersion in vortex-dominated flows will be discussed, and the effects of coherent eddies on the marine ecosystem dynamics will be addressed.
