Social Events

  • Welcome cocktail on Monday
  • Excursion on Wednesday
  • Banquet on Wednesday

If weather conditions permit, a hike will be organized in the vicinity of the OHP, as well as a visit to a wine cellar, allowing a tasting session of local wines and a walk through the vineyards.

Visits and discoveries

The OHP astronomical site provides the calm and isolation necessary to optimize the quality of the school in the natural beauty that characterizes the region. Having the opportunity to spend a week allows us to organize pleasant moments ourselves.

Daily pleasure

Although each building and cupola is necessarily accessible by a road, it is more pleasant to borrow shortcuts through a forest of oaks.

Night visits

Also, being housed offers the opportunity to enjoy the starry sky, devoid of urban light, throughout the stay. In general, with the authorization of astronomers on an observation mission, guided tours to telescopes (especially the largest ones) and to astronomical devices are organized.

Walks nearby the OHP

In the village of Saint Michel l'Observatoire, one discovers beautiful facades of the seventeenth century by taking the main street to the Place de la Fontaine. You will pass next to the church Saint Pierre (XIVth - XVth century) then on left hand, one will arrive at the doors of the church Saint Michel (XIIth - XVIth century) which deserves the detour for its originality and its beautiful terrace. From there, one can admire the whole country of Forcalquier, the Montagne de Lure and the Luberon. One will descend by a charming path that winds between the terraced gardens (terraces) planted with olive trees.

The village is surrounded by the sumptuous landscapes of the Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon, with fields of lavender, green hills and aromatic plants form the backdrop of this small picturesque village of the Alpes de Haute Provence. At walking distances from the village, one can discover old chapels, oratories, and beautiful restored farms. In Lincel, a small hamlet south of St Michel l'Observatoire, there is a castle with its beautiful cedar park crowns the summit of the small village.

If weather conditions permit, a hike will be organized in the vicinity of the OHP, as well as a visit to a wine cellar, allowing a tasting session of local wines and a walk through the vineyards.
