Venue & Travel

The school will be held on the site of the Observatoire de Haute Provence (OHP). It is an observation site for astronomy, the environment and the study of the atmosphere. It is located near the village of Saint Michel l'Observatoire, a hundred kilometers north of Marseille, on a limestone plateau wooded oaks whose average altitude is 650 meters. Manosque, the nearest town, is accessible by public transport (bus and train) from Aix-en-Provence and Marseille. From there you can take a taxi at a negotiated rate with the OHP (to remind when booking the ride). On the other hand, whenever possible, we might pick you up there (at your request).

Arrival/Departure

Participants are expected to arrive on Monday, November 25th and to leave their accomodation not later than Saturday, November 30th. It is strongly advised to specify all the information concerning your arrival and your departure in the registration form so that we can advise you at best.

Please consult the FAQ page for tourism information about your stay in Provence before or after the School.

With the shuttle organized by the School

To reach the OHP, a bus service is organized at these dates; the bus will be identified with a panel showing the acronym "OHP". It will serve successively Marseille Provence airport and Aix-en-Provence TGV (railways station) .

Arrival : On Monday participants will be picked up at :

  • 1) Marseille Provence airport at 10:20. Upon your arrival get out the hall of the airport and join the coach parking (opposite the entrance to Hall 3/4);
  • 2) Aix-en-Provence TGV (railways station) at 10:50. Upon the arrival (from Paris) cross the railway by a bridge towards the docks (departure) and get out the railway station (exit Zola), go to your left to reach the coach parking.
  • For those arriving on Monday and cannot fit to the above schedules, additional transport logistics could be organized with participants' vehicles. With this goal, the people concerned (drivers and passengers) are please to come forward.

Departure : On Saturday at 14:00, participants will be transported from OHP to :

  • 1) Aix-en-Provence TGV at 16:00 (at the earliest);
  • 2) Marseille Provence airport at 16:30 (at the earliest).

Without the shuttle organized by the school

  • By train reach either Aix-en-Provence TGV or Marseille Saint Charles, and then take a connexion to Manosque (train or bus).
  • By plane choose Marseille Provence airport (it includes also low cost flights), and then take a bus to Manosque. Beware, there are two bus lines: 25 and 26.
  • With your own vehicle, go to Saint Michel l'Observatoire (use maps Michelin, Mappy, Google Maps). The entrance to the OHP site is regulated by an access control pass system, and one must comply with the terms of access. Beware to drive your vehicle at night exclusively with pilot lights since the guest house is located on an astronomical observation site.
